Sponsorship FAQ’s
What does it mean to sponsor Afghans who are applying for the Humanitarian Parole in the United States?
Through Humanitarian Parole, the US government will allow Afghans in danger to temporarily enter the US. However, they need an accompanying Affidavit of Support from an individual or an organization proving they can help provide for the Humanitarian Parole beneficiary until the beneficiary can provide for themselves.
What are the US government’s requirements in order to be allowed to be a sponsor?
As an individual, you must be a US Citizen or have a Lawful Permanent Resident Card. Also, you must have a gross income equal to or greater than the federal poverty guidelines with your beneficiaries counted in your household size. For example, if your current household size is 4, and you are applying for 2 beneficiaries, you will need to account for a household size of 6.
What are the possible legal ramifications for agreeing to sponsor a family?
If you have a security clearance or are a federal government employee, we suggest that you seek legal counsel before becoming a sponsor. It’s possible that you could endanger your clearance or potentially violate 18 USC 205. * Any statement on this website represents the general understanding of our team at the time of publishing and is not provided as authoritative or as legal advice. It is always advisable to consult with your own lawyer or legal team if you have any concerns before moving forward.
Will the families we are sponsoring be living in our state or region?
Not necessarily. However, once Afghans have safely reached the US, they are welcome to move within the country if they so desire. Note that one of the priorities of the US government is to resettle people near their own blood relatives, which means they might land in a different state or region than their sponsors.
Can I sponsor one person if they are part of a family, or does it need to be their whole family?
Yes, you can sponsor an individual person in a family.
Can I link my donation to a specific Afghan individual or family?
At this time, we cannot confirm that your donation will go toward a specific individual or family, due to a variety of factors. Your donation will 100% go toward Afghans seeking Humanitarian Parole and the effort to get them to safety.
How quickly will I hear back from somebody once I submit my information through this website?
You will hear back from a member of our team within 2-3 business days.
If I don’t feel ready to commit to sponsoring a family, how else might I be able to help Afghans in their immigration process?
The filing fee for the Humanitarian Parole paperwork is $575 per person (not per family). While a fee waiver may be requested on the part of the applicant, we are told that this significantly slows down the approval process compared to the applications for which the fee was paid.
Is my donation tax-deductible?
If you are giving through an established 501(c)(3) then your donation is tax-deductible. We have a way to give through the National Christian Foundation, which is a US-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that assists donors in donating to charitable causes.
